Dr. Gushee has published 23 books and many hundreds of essays, book chapters, articles, reviews, and opinion pieces.

Probably his most widely noted books before are Righteous Gentiles of the Holocaust (Fortress, 1994/Paragon House, 2003), Kingdom Ethics (with Glen Stassen; IVP, 2003/Eerdmans, 2016), The Future of Faith in American Politics (Baylor, 2008), a devotional work with his wife Jeanie called Yours is the Day, Lord, Yours is the Night (Thomas Nelson, 2012/Harper Collins 2018), which was nominated for the prestigious Grawemeyer Award, Changing our Mind (Read the Spirit, 2014), his memoir Still Christian: Following Jesus Out of American Evangelicalism (Westminster John Knox, 2017), and Moral Leadership for a Divided Age: Fourteen People Who Dared to Change Our World (with Colin Holtz; Brazos, 2018). 

Upcoming books include In the Shadow of a Prophet: The Legacy of Walter Rauschenbush (with William Brackney; Mercer, fall 2019), Justice and the Way of Jesus: Glen Stassen, Incarnational Discipleship, and the Contest over Methodology in Christian Ethics (with Reggie Williams; Orbism 2020), and For the Post-Evangelicals: Where Do We Go From Here?
